Bridges

A bridge may be used to replace missing teeth and helps to maintain the shape of your face.  By literally bridging the gap where one or more teeth may have been, a bridge looks like a natural, beautiful part of your smile.

Bridges also serve an important structural purpose.  All your teeth work together to create a functional smile.  If a tooth or teeth are missing, the surrounding teeth will shift into the void.  In turn, the teeth on the opposite jawline can shift in response.  This shifting and movement can cause bite problems, chewing issues, jaw pain and TMJ.  Whether tooth loss is from a congenital issue, decay, gum disease or sudden injury, it is vital to stop the surrounding teeth from shifting.

Bridges can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials, and are bonded onto surrounding teeth for support.  The success of any bridge depends on its foundation — the other teeth, gums, or bone to which it is attached. Therefore, it's very important to keep your existing teeth, gums, and jaw healthy and strong.
